CARSON CITY – U.S. Representative Mark Amodei (NV-02) presented the Nevada State Museum Tuesday in honor of the Carson City Mint and the 100th
Representative Amodei was virtually accompanied at this historic presentation by United States Mint Director David J. Ryder and Nevada State Museum Director Myron Freedman.
“The historical significance of the Carson City Mint is an essential part of our self-image. Today we celebrated the 100th anniversary of the last Morgan dollar coin minted in the United States. It is only fitting that the Carson City Mint played such a prominent role in numismatic history and in this Morgan silver dollar commemoration program. When Congress passed the Silver Dollar Coin Anniversary Act in 1921, not only did it preserve that American legacy, it also put more money in the pockets of American taxpayers, â€said Rep. Amodei. “Today I had the honor of presenting a“ CC â€Morgan Dollar 2021 commemorative coin to the Nevada State Museum. I am grateful to US Mint Director Ryder, whose collaboration was an integral part of the legislation authorizing this program and the inclusion of the “CC†mintmark. Thanks also to Director Freedman of the Nevada State Museum for hosting this historic moment. “
During his presentation, David J. Ryder, Director of the United States Mint stated, “The coin presented today recognizes the Carson City Mint with a“ CC â€Privy Mark for its part in the history of the Morgan Silver Dollar. The Carson City Mint holds a special place in the 229-year history of the United States Mint.
“The Carson City Mint opened in December 1869 and produced its first coins on February 11, 1870, with coin production ending in 1893 due to the reduced mining of the Comstock Lode. During its years of operation, the Carson City Mint minted more than $ 49,000,000 from 1878 to 1885 and from 1889 to 1893 the Carson City Mint produced Morgan Silver Dollars. “

The 2021 Commemorative Morgan Dollar and Certificate of Authenticity issued by Congressman Amodei will be on display at the Nevada State Museum. Congressman Amodei personally minted this coin during his recent trip to the Philadelphia Mint.
BACKGROUND
In Congress, Representative Amodei worked closely with the US Mint, as well as US Representative Andy Barr, to honor the Carson City Mint with the secret “CC” mark. On March 11, 2020, HR 6192, the Silver Dollar Coin Anniversary Act of 1921, was introduced in the House of Representatives and on 22nd U.S. President Trump put the law into effect on January 5, 2021.
There was a limit of 175,000 for the Morgan Silver Dollar 2021 with the secret brand “CC”. Despite a two-week pre-order window for each series in the series, all coins in each of the six segments were sold out within 25 minutes of being available, which underscores the strong demand from collectors for these historic coins. The licensing legislation for the program allows the mint to manufacture the coins in the years to come if there is consumer demand.
The Carson City Mint was founded by Congress in 1863 because of the Comstock Lode and operated intermittently until the spring of 1893. Of all the coins minted in Carson City, the Morgan Silver Dollar was one of the most popular.
