Central bank issues Umka commemorative coins

On June 30th, the Bank of Russia will issue commemorative silver and base metal coins with images of Umka, the polar bear cub.

“Umka, the polar bear cub from the animated film of the same name, which is popular with many generations of viewers, will be featured on the commemorative coins of the Bank of Russia. The animated film was directed by Vladimir Popov and Vladimir Pekar and written by Yury Yakovlev. It was originally published by Soyuzmultfilm in 1969, ”reports the Bank of Russia press service.

The bank will issue two types of coins, silver coins worth 3 rubles and 25 ruble coins made of base metal, also with colored coating.

The reverse of the three-ruble silver coin features a colorful image of characters from Umka between ice and under a starry sky, created using the laser freezing technique, and the word “Umka” on top. The mintage is 7,000 coins.

The reverse of the 25 ruble coin, made of base metal, contains an embossed image of the cartoon characters, also between ice and under a starry sky, with the word “Umka” on top. Some of the coins have a colored finish. The circulation of uncolored coins is 850,000 and of colored coins 150,000.
