Gasoline and diesel prices stayed steady for over a month on Sunday, December 5th as the center cut excise taxes on gasoline by 5 rupees per liter and on diesel by 10 rupees per liter to bring about record high retail fuel prices reduce. Following the centre’s decision, several state and Union Territory (UT) governments, including opposition-ruled Punjab, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, continued to cut prices through tax cuts.

The price of gasoline in Delhi remained unchanged at 95.41 rupees per liter three days after the government cut sales tax from 30 percent to 19.4 percent, which resulted in a decrease of around 8 rupees per liter. Diesel price remained unchanged in Delhi at Rs 86.67 per liter. According to Indian Oil Corporation, the price of gasoline and diesel is Rs 109.98 and Rs 94.14 per liter, respectively. Fuel prices are the highest in Mumbai of all four major cities.

A liter of gasoline was sold in Chennai for the same price of 101.40 rupees. The diesel price also remained constant at 91.43 rupees per liter. On the other hand, in Calcutta, gasoline can be bought for 104.67 rupees per liter and diesel costs 101.56 rupees per liter.

In India’s IT capital, Bengaluru, a liter of gasoline costs 100.65 rupees and diesel costs 85.08 rupees per liter. In Hyderabad, gasoline costs 108.20 rupees per liter and diesel 94.62 rupees per liter. In Chandigarh people have to pay 100.12 rupees per liter for gasoline and 86.46 rupees per liter for diesel.

State oil refineries such as Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum review fuel prices daily, taking into account crude oil prices in international markets and rupee-dollar exchange rates. Any changes in gasoline and diesel prices will be implemented daily from 6:00 a.m.
