Australian bullion sales held a steady pace in May for both gold and silver products, according to figures from The Perth Mint of Australia.
The sale of minted investment coins and bars slowed somewhat compared to the previous month, but increased compared to the previous year.
“A strong rally in both gold and silver prices, driven by the weakness of the US dollar, a decline in bond yields and a sharp decline in cryptocurrencies, encouraged investors to re-enter the precious metals markets in May 2021,” said Jordan Eliseo, Perth Mint Manager, Listed Products and Investment Research.
LBMA prices rose 7.5% for gold and 6.8% for silver in May.

Perth Mint’s sales of silver coins and silver bars last month totaled 1,700,807 ounces, a 5.4% decrease from April but a 70.6% increase from May 2020.
“May was another extremely successful month for silver bullion – our manufacturing capacity was again challenged by demand from key markets such as Germany and the United States,” said Neil Vance, general manager of Minted Products, Perth Mint.
Annual sales of 8,092,608 ounces of silver are 17.1% above the 6,912,643 ounces sold in the same period last year.
